The business of painting contracting in the Greater Toronto Area is very competitive. There are reputable and professional painting companies working very hard to earn your business. Unfortunately there are some stories of unethical “painters” as well.
Warning signs you may be dealing with an unethical painter 1) There is no registration as a company or corporation. 2) There is no liability or workman’s compensation insurance. 3) Without any careful inspection of the proposed work, a price is “thrown at you”. 4) The price is unusually low compared to legitimate paint contractors. 5) This price is even lower if a cash payment is agreed. 6) A cash deposit without a receipt is requested. 7) A written detailed proposal is out of the question. 8) No written protection that the price will not go up after work starts. 9) Subtle or not so subtle pressure to "take it or leave it". 10) Without a contract no warranty can be given. 11) There are no customer, business, or banking references. 12) No business card, address, or even vehicle signage is evident. 13) He just moved in the Toronto area. 14) Other painting contractors, or previous customers are bad mouthed. 15) No written assurances of good quality paints and materials. |
